Karen & John’s Wedding – 1st Broughshane & Dunsilly Hotel, Antrim

What you tend to find as a wedding photographer is that you have quite a lot of back to back weddings, especially on Fridays & Saturdays. This always means a very busy 2 days, especially when you finish on the Friday evening, as you need to get all your cards downloaded, backed up and everything charged and ready for the next morning.

Karen & John’s wedding was the 2nd day of a back to back wedding weekend for me. It was good to meet up with Karen & John again. I began the day as usual with the bridal preparations before heading the short distance down into the village of Broughshane to meet John & the men at the church. This was a day that we definitely had to be patient with the weather as the rain couldn’t make up it’s mind what it was doing. Thankfully we had plenty of brollies & shelter when we arrived at a family friend’s beautiful gardens for the photos. We almost had all the seasons in 1 day, but thankfully everyone persevered and we got what we needed.

Louise & Nigel’s Wedding – Rosspark Hotel

Today on the blog is the wedding of Louise & Nigel. I love having a really relaxed easy going couple to work with, and Louise & Nigel were no exception. The fact that when I arrived at Louise’s house in the morning, it was lashing it down outside, yet she still had a big grin on her face. I think I was the one more worried about the weather!!

Thankfully though, the weather did improve and we managed to get most of the photos done outside, which is always a plus especially when you have some lovely gardens to work with. Was also a pleasure to be working again with the guys from Blank Canvas Productions, who kept me thoroughly entertained throughout the day!

Fine Art Newborn Shoot – Will, 7 days old

So glad I left it a few days after this shoot before I started editing these images. Sometimes it helps to come back to edit a shoot with a clear mind. We had a fantastic afternoon with little Will who was just 7 days old. Once we got him settled and over to sleep, we managed to rattle off quite a few frames. Here are just a few of my favourites.

Choosing Images For Your Album

Allowing My Clients to choose the images they want to have included in their wedding album is a must. Afterall, it is their album. Their wedding. Their memories. But, and I guess there is always a ‘but’. Sometimes it is important to give the photographer a little bit of input at this stage.

Here are some thoughts I thought I would share with you in the hope that it might help you as you consider what images make it into your album.

Picture your album as a journey through your wedding day, from start to finish. So try and incorporate images from each stage eg bridal preparations, groom’s arrival, ceremony etc. Try and see it as a story that needs to flow seamlessly.

Dont forget the details. You will have spent a lot of time choosing and co-ordinating all the details of your wedding. Your choice of favours, jewellery, the centre piece on your tables, your chair covers. And I will have spent a lot of time photographing them. Even if you have to add a couple of extra pages into your album, please don’t leave them out.

Don’t be scared to choose a mixture of colour & B&W images. But be careful. Sometimes a mixture on the same page doesn’t always look right. Let me explain…. If you are wanting to include 4 images from the bridal preparations in the morning, try and choose either 4 colour images or 4 B&W images so that they sit nicely together in your design. If you decided to choose 1 colour & 3 B&W images then this can look a little messy on the 1 page with the 1 colour image looking out of place.

Think about including at least 2 full page feature images – these would be 2 iconic images from your day that the rest of your album would then be designed around. They really will give your album that extra WOW factor.

Consider your front cover. In life, first impressions are so important, and your wedding album will be no different. Gone are the days when you had to settle for a plain black leather cover. Why not explore some of the new acrylic & metal photo cover options available.
